We are excited and APPRECIATIVE to welcome the support of Dr. Vincent Harding
(world-renowned scholar and activist, best known for his work with and writings on Dr. Martin Luther King and for famously
drafted Dr. King’s speech at Riverside Church entitled “A Time to Break Silence” in which King spoke out boldly against the Vietnam War).

Dr. Harding encourages us to bring that same spirit to our Morehouse Movement to rethink and reinvent our beloved College with the following statement:

“This is a time when our country is being pressed to rethink itself and to try to rework what its purpose is both at home and in the world. Morehouse should see itself as being qualified and called to play a leading role in that whole rethinking of this country and its citizens—especially in terms of the vision of democracy that has been a part of this country’s best dreamers ever since we came to this place and ever since the country was founded. That determination was to create a just society—and we have added to it the determination to create a multiracial and just, compassionate society. All of that seems to be well within the circle of Morehouse’s best sense of purpose.”

Last semester Dr. Harding was a visiting professor at Morehouse and taught a class entitled “Martin Luther King and the Future of America.” Several of the young alumni and Men of Morehouse who are key participants in our effort to remake Morehouse are those who took that class. In it, Dr. Harding challenged the students saying: “You keep looking for Malcolm. But maybe you ARE Malcolm?”

Only by locking arms across generations and constituencies can we hope to help Morehouse reach the fullness of its potential.

THANK YOU, DR. HARDING!!!
